Woke up with a "buzzy" headache. Buzzy, I probably made that word up. Thought I was coming down with a bug. As I go with my morning routine, as soon as I drank my coffee, I felt so sick of my stomach. I had to lay down and counting my minutes to when I needed to run to the bathroom. But nothing. I am wondering if this had anything to do with my dinner choice last night, the shake. For sure I was feeling I was in a mixer. I stayed immobile until I felt safe. My body was screaming eat an egg. I have this belief than when your body is low in certain nutrients it will let you know, and I always listen.
Yes, I ate the egg, make that two boiled eggs. "A complete meal in 1 shell." I started feeling better in a short while. The "sick" feeling was controlled. To distract my mind I got crafty. That is playing with tshirt string and getting creative. A little distraction does help!
What is up with all the ethical debates about carnivores and vegetarians. I do understand the ethical part vegans believe and advocate. I do respect that. The same way I respect any human being decisions. I was raised omnivore, carnivore-vegetarian, my whole life the flesh of an animal has been my primary source of food, legumes and grains second, and fruits and vegetables third. The times I tried to incorporate a vegetarian diet failed, not because I couldn't do it, but because I was not well informed and my mind said you can not survive on lettuce and carrots. A vegetarian diet is rich in ingredients and great delicious choices. This is a decision you have to make for yourself. In my case it has been a battle because I do enjoy variety of plant and animal based.
A thought went by my mind: what are the effects of not getting enough salt in your system. Why you asked...Since I have not consumed any meat in almost a week, this could be related to my stomach upset and headaches. Decreased sodium in the diet can lead to problems, salt is needed for the body to function properly. Seasonings enhance the flavor of the meats, I am not getting that salty kick. Vegetables do not require the same amount of salt.
Breakfast: coffee with soy milk
2 boiled eggs with a dash of adobo
Lunch: pear salad (a bed of romaine lettuce, a sliced pear, walnuts, raisins topped with an apricot dressing -apricot jam and lime juice)
Dinner: red rice with pigeon peas, baked potato squares (seasoned with salt, pepper, oil, garlic and paprika) corn and green beans
Like I said before breakfast time was terrible, but the salad I had for lunch was very refreshing and my dinner, traditional Puerto Rican rice and the seasoned "mock meat" potatoes were very comforting. Drank my water throughout the day, and my afternoon cup of coffee. The mind is strong, once I ate that egg, those little voices inside wanted me to give in to the flesh!
I am not trying to change anyone's belief. You do what you want, everyone has their own mind. I am giving a recount of my personal experience. I go to other blogs for support, to educate myself, but when the debates start about ethics or which diet is the healthiest, I don't want to be caught in the middle. Experience it for yourself and then make your choice, that is my advice. There are some really good vegan blogs out there, to coach you thru the process. Educate yourself about proper nutrition as well.
Wow almost a week already,
Maddy
